"Casualty" in the U.S., too, means injured. It was only recently changed by the DOW in order to make the figures from the recent war more palatable.

First thing I thought when I saw this on TV at the gym this morning was, "Oh my god. BOB!!!" I couldn't wait to get home to check up on you. So glad you and Larry are OK. That goes without saying, of course, but still.
We've been watching Beeb coverage via BBC America. It's strange how calm everything seems when compared to American coverage. My neighbor called excitedly; she was watching Fox.
I stumbled across your blog entrys linked from "Der Spiegel" ( thats how it got written btw, but my english wont be better maybe ;D) ).
Living without a tv after just moving to another flat and being forced to build a newscenter via the internet on my own is pretty hard - so this way many thx to you on giving another insight in what is happening in London.
I do live in Hamburg, germany, which is a big place even, and since the 9/11 events i sometimes also believe that a big city won´t be really the best place to stay or even live at .. but thats just another fear one has to deal with nowadays.
Again, thx for your reports, and all the best to you and anyone else.
Here's what you're not missing in NYC: Bloomie and Pataki blabbing on tv all day, reading reports they've been dying to read for 3.5 years, last night's shift of cops still working (great--cranky and tired), subways delayed for suspicious package checks (like they'll really go through that homeless guy's cart), traffic diverted over certain bridges, bus sweeps...thank goddess I have therapy today. But waking up to all of that was vaguely reminiscent. And, of course, I worried about you and Larry. But you're intrepid.
Now tell Larry to get off that roof in Canary Wharf before he hurts someone...

"Imagine my surprise (I was downright gobsmacked) when the news report said there were 136 casualites at one hospital, but over 100 of those were released after initial evaluation."
Hey buddy, I'm glad that you're ok... I'm just glad that Hawai'i is a tourist destination for the world hehehe. Nobody would probably have a real interest in causing terror here =)
